Weekends in May. How many days off do we have in May? How to relax during the May holidays

This year the May holidays were placed very conveniently on the calendar. May 1 fell on a Sunday and resulted in a day off on Tuesday, the third. None of the employers applied for Saturday on the last day of April, so everyone will receive a pleasant mini-vacation of 4 days (April 30 - May 3). Then there are three working days - May 4, 5, 6 - followed by a three-day weekend from the 7th to the 9th. The remaining Saturdays and Sundays in May will remain unchanged.

It's safe to say that on weekdays between the May holidays there will be few cars on the roads. Many of those who have time off, extra vacation days, or the opportunity to take days at their own expense will try to do this (and you, dear readers, can do it too!). As a result, they will get a full 10-day vacation with an economical “waste” of measured vacation days.

Holidays in May and more

Of course, guessing and calculating is not always convenient. There has been talk for several years about making the May holidays long weekends instead of New Year's. Still, relaxing in a relatively warm May is much more pleasant than in an unpredictable January: whether it will snow or not, whether the skating rinks will open or melt...

Alternative projects were also submitted to the Duma: for example, to leave only January 1, 2 and 7, May 1 and 9 as days off, cancel everything else and automatically add another 10 days to everyone’s annual leave. Or finally make December 31 a day off, because few people find it convenient to celebrate the New Year after waking up at 6-7 in the morning and working all day. But no decision has been made yet, and the May holidays remain separated by a “half-working” period of 3-4 days.

Have a nice holiday!

Traditionally, it so happens that a large number of weekends in our country fall not only at the beginning of the year and the first month of spring, but also in May. Therefore, many of our fellow citizens are interested in the question of when to relax during the May holidays. Also, many people want to know how many days off there will be in May. Now these questions can be answered quite simply, since deputies determine the weekend schedule in advance. By making some of the days of May days off, they hope that our fellow citizens will spend this free time usefully.

Russians' interest in the number of days off in May is due to the fact that some politicians have recently made statements in which they talk about the need to take initiatives to gradually reduce the number of holidays. Such decisions, according to some politicians, will help avoid the phenomena of continuous drunkenness into which some fellow citizens throw themselves. However, the majority of the country's population does not yet support such initiatives. Therefore, the number of days not only does not decrease, but also increases.

This year, Spring and Labor Day, celebrated on May 1, falls on Sunday. Based on the norms in the law, it should be postponed to the next day. This means that May 2 will be a holiday, which means a day off. At the same time, if we focus on the government decree, which determined that the day off Saturday, January 2, was moved to Tuesday, May 3, it turns out that citizens working five days a week at the beginning of the last month of spring will have four days off. Thus, on April 30, May 1, 2 and 3, they can enjoy their holidays and go about their business. With a six-day working week, three days are allocated for rest - May 1, 2 and 3.

Another holiday that falls in May is Victory Day, sacred to Russians, celebrated on May 9. This year it falls on Monday. In anticipation of it, there are two days off for people who work a “five-day week.” This way they will have three days off. They will be free from work on May 7, 8 and 9. For those people who work a six-day workday, rest will be limited to only two days - May 8 and 9.

Thus, it can be stated that those of our citizens who work on a schedule five days a week will have more days off. Not only will they have more days off. In addition, the week between holidays will be shortened. Thus, at the beginning of the month they will receive four days off - from Saturday 30 April until 3 May. Then you will have to work for 3 days. Their last working day will be May 4. Workdays will begin on Wednesday, May 4 and end on Friday, May 6. After this, the weekend will begin - from Saturday 7 May to Monday 9 May. Citizens who work a five-day week will return to work on May 10. There are no other holidays in May.

Every year we look forward to the May weekend, we plan in advance to go out for barbecues, organize picnics, meet with friends and watch the parade in honor of the great Victory Day. We should not forget about perhaps the most anticipated holiday event of the year for many believers. In 2016, the government of the Russian Federation defined weekends for its citizens as follows.

How do we relax during the May holidays?

  • May 1, 2016 falls on Sunday. By the way, in 2016 May Day is combined with Easter.
  • May 2, 2016. Due to the fact that May 1 turned out to be a non-working day, the day off in the production calendar was moved to the next day - Monday.
  • May 3, 2016. Oddly enough, it’s also a day off! Official holidays in January (2 and 3) fell on Saturday and Sunday, which is why January 2 was moved to May 3, and January 2 to March 7. Consequently, Russians will rest for three days – from 1.05 to 3.05.
  • May 7, 2016- Saturday.
  • May 8, 2016- Sunday.
  • May 9, 2016- one of the most important days of the year for Russians, when all residents of the country celebrate the anniversary of the victory over the fascist invaders. Victory Day will be on Monday, which means that Russians will have to rest for 3 days - from Saturday (7.05) to Monday (9.05) inclusive.
In the future, all May holidays may be united!

Thus, there are no long weekends for the May holidays. This issue has already been raised several times in the Duma: one group of deputies adheres to the position of uniting the May holidays into a single weekend period. Others say that additional days off should be completely excluded from the production calendar, adding them to the annual vacation period. There is a third opinion - to give the Russians a choice. Anyone who wants can take extra days off for the May holidays, and if not, take those days off for vacation.

The last month of spring - May - is traditionally considered the ideal period for holding long-awaited May Days and the first barbecues in the fresh air. this month will delight us twice. Since May 1 falls on a Sunday, May 2 will be an official holiday, and the day off from January 3 has been moved to May 3. The second weekend falls from May 7 to May 9. The main holidays of the month are Labor Day, the celebration of the anniversary of the victory over the Nazi invaders and the bright holiday of Easter.

May 1 – Labor Day and Easter

On this day in 2016, two holidays fall at once - the proletarian holiday of Peace and Labor, and one of the main religious holidays - Easter. The emergence of International Workers' Day is associated with the events that occurred on May 1, 1886, when six demonstrators were killed during the dispersal of a workers' demonstration in Chicago. This caused a storm of public anger and demand to stop police brutality.

The uprising resulted in the death of eight police officers due to a bomb explosion. Four representatives of the anarchist party were accused of preparing and carrying out the explosion. The defendants were sentenced to death. In memory of this event, at the Paris Congress of the International it was announced that May 1 would be celebrated as Workers' Solidarity Day.

Every May Day, workers will go out to rallies and demonstrations to put forward demands to the capitalists to improve working conditions, introduce social protection standards and shorten the working day. Now the original meaning of the holiday has been forgotten, but it is still very pleasant to relax and gather with friends for the first picnic in nature on a sunny May day.

In 2016, and falls on May 1st. This holiday belongs to the category of ancient Christian celebrations - it was celebrated back in the time of the apostles. Before Easter Sunday, believers adhere to strict fasting for seven weeks. On Sunday night a service is held, then Easter cakes and painted eggs are blessed in the church, the whole family gathers at the table and celebrates the bright holiday of Christ's Resurrection.

The bloody Great Patriotic War lasted for more than 1,400 days. As a result of a successfully carried out offensive campaign dating back to May 8, 1945, Berlin, the capital of Nazi Germany, was captured. Soviet troops, together with their allies, accepted the unconditional surrender of Hitler's army. Since then, May 9 has become a symbol of freedom and military glory. Mandatory attributes of the holiday are ceremonial parades, honoring veterans and expressing words of gratitude to them for the peaceful sky and victory.

The fleet, located in the Black Sea basin, was founded 233 years ago according to the highest order of Empress Catherine II. This event occurred almost immediately after the annexation of Crimea to the territory of the Russian Empire. The first 11 ships of the Black Sea squadron were brought into the bay, where the city of Sevastopol was subsequently built.

In the further history of the state, this fleet played an important role, helping to support the interests of the empire in the maritime space and in the Balkans. On the day of glory, sailors praise the fleet and lay wreaths at the monuments to the heroic admirals of the times of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union.

Will a 4-day working week be introduced in Russia:

Currently, most Russian citizens work five days a week. According to a study conducted by VTsIOM at the end of June 2019, some of them are interested in the transition to a four-day work week (naturally, while maintaining existing wages).

Thus, 29% of Russians have a positive attitude towards the transition to a 4-day working week. 17% of respondents had a neutral attitude to this issue, and 6% found it difficult to answer. Well, 48% of Russian residents during the survey did not support the idea of reducing the working week to 4 days. The fears of this “almost half” of Russians are related to the fact that this change could ultimately lead not only to a reduction in working hours, but also to a reduction in wages.

We hasten to reassure you - at the present time there are no laws in force associated with the future reduction of the working week to four days. Also on this topic no bills are being considered.

That is, in the near future:
* a four-day working week will not be introduced in Russia.

In this case, we mean, of course, the legally approved and common “four-day week”. Individual enterprises, in the event of an unstable situation and financial difficulties, can still introduce either a four-day or a three-day working week with a corresponding reduction in cash payments to employees.

On August 13, 2019, it became known that the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FNPR) sent its proposals for the transition to a 4-day working day to the Ministry of Labor. The proposal specifically noted that this change should occur “with the obligatory preservation of the previous level of wages.”

On August 14, 2019, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin is currently not discussing the transition to a four-day working week.

What Dmitry Medvedev said about the transition to a non-4-day working week:

On June 11, 2019, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev spoke about the advantages of switching to a four-day working week during a speech in Geneva, Switzerland at the 108th session of the International Labor Organization.

He predicted that the transition to a four-day week will occur in the near future.

Quote: “Technological progress leads to a reduction not only in jobs, but also in working hours and in the expansion of leisure time. It is very likely that the future lies in a four-day working week as a new basis for the social and labor contract.”. YES. Medvedev.

As arguments, Dmitry Anatolyevich cited the example of the American businessman Henry Ford, who 100 years ago reduced the working week at his enterprises from 48 to 40 hours and achieved an impressive increase in labor productivity.

Also given as an example was the New Zealand management company Perpetual, which, after switching to a 4-day working week, achieved an increase in labor productivity by 20% (when converted to an hour of working time). At the same time, the stress level of company employees has significantly decreased.

When can a 4-day working week be introduced in Russia:

According to experts, a four-day working week can be introduced in the Russian Federation no earlier than 2030, or in 10-15 years .

For example, this opinion is shared by the vice-rector of the Academy of Labor and Social Relations (ATiSO), former deputy head of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation, Alexander Safonov. In his opinion, the transition to a four-day work week will inevitably lead to a reduction in citizens' incomes. The exception will be those industries where payment is made not for the number of hours worked, but for the result, such as in the IT sector.
Republic Day. In 2019, the celebration falls on Thursday.

In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 30-RZ dated 05.05.2014, August 22, 2019 is a non-working holiday and an additional day off.

Since the holiday in '19 falls on a Thursday, residents of the Republic will have one day off in the middle of the week. Friday August 23, 2019 is a regular working day. No transfers of weekends and holidays are provided.

August 21, 2019 will be a shortened or full working day in the Komi Republic:

Wednesday August 21, 2019 - the eve of the holiday, since it precedes the holiday, is working day reduced by 1 hour.
