How to sew up a hole with embroidery on children's pants. How to sew jeans without a patch so that the hole is not visible. The jacket is torn - what to do?

My greetings to everyone! Small holes most often form on knitted items. Let's answer the question: how to sew up a small hole on T-shirts, pants, dresses so that it does not stand out and the clothes can be worn.

Invisible darning

On any clothing, but especially on knitwear, a tiny hole can just appear out of nowhere and ruin the whole look. Most often they are discovered after washing. The thing is good, but you can no longer wear it, what should you do?

To prevent the hook from increasing in size, we will try to sew it up so that it is not visible. If you start working with simple threads, you can pull the material together and this place will catch your eye.

Let's not rush.

  • Take the thinnest needle, the one used by bead embroiderers.
  • Find tights that match the color of your T-shirt or are neutral.

Stages of work:

  1. Pull the thread out of the tights.
  2. Thread the needle using a threader. Don't tie a knot!
  3. We work from the front side of the product. Carefully collect all the loops with a needle. We catch them from below and from above, one loop at a time, then make a stitch without pulling the fabric.
  4. After finishing the darning, bring the needle to the wrong side.
  5. Secure the thread with a couple of stitches, then cut it off.
  6. Let's straighten the fabric and iron the repair area from the inside out. The nylon thread will melt slightly under the influence of high temperature, thereby closing the hole.

Repairing things without a needle

It's sad when you find a small hole in your T-shirt. The T-shirt can be thrown away, or better yet, repaired. We still have time to throw it away!

This method is not suitable for silk or wool items.

There won’t be a trace left on a knitted T-shirt if you do the following:

  • Turn the product inside out.
  • Bring the edges of the hole together.
  • Place fabric gluing tape on it and interlining on top.
  • Place a small piece of white fabric on top of all this so that the structure does not move.
  • Spray the fabric with a spray bottle. Then place the heated iron in place of the patch and hold for 10 seconds.
  • Remove the fabric and turn the product inside out.

How to repair a sock

This problem is familiar to every housewife.

Repair of thick knitwear

The demonstrated method is suitable for any item made of thick knitwear, including woolen socks.

Stages of work:

If such a hole is formed, as in the picture below, then take tone-on-tone threads.

Three ways of darning

This method is suitable for repairs in inconspicuous places.

Darning pattern in the classic way:

Before starting work, run a thread around the hole to prevent the fabric from stretching. After work it will need to be pulled out.

The next option is to glue adhesive material from the inside, then do embroidery on it. Or you can make a patch on the “web”, glue it, then do embroidery on it.

These options are suitable for the most experienced dressmakers.

In parting: now all things will be saved, because there are many ways to sew up a small hole on any.

Many people have jeans in their wardrobe. They are convenient, comfortable, but holes that appear over time force us to say goodbye to our favorite thing. To make the jeans still please us for a while, the holes can be mended, hidden with an appliqué or a patch.

How to mend on a typewriter

The technique used to disguise a hole using a sewing machine is called stuffing. It is indispensable for repairing men's jeans.

The sewing machine must have a forward and reverse stitch function.

You will need threads of the same color as the fabric, a patch, and a piece of non-woven fabric larger than the patch.

A patch is applied on the wrong side, and interlining is placed on it. We iron everything.

From the front side we “fill” the hole with stitches. The first stitch is sent forward, then we switch the machine to reverse mode and lay the next stitch. The width between stitches is equal to the width of the thread. The result is a dense surface of threads that seem to paint over the hole.

The final point is to get rid of the excess fabric of the patch and interlining, that is, we simply cut off what is unnecessary. There will be no trace left of the hole, plus it will be completely invisible.

A piece made with threads of a contrasting color will look very interesting. The completed work will focus attention and look unusual.

Manually

You can manually sew up a hole that looks like a right angle or a cut in the shape of a straight line. The threads used should match the tone of the jeans, that is, be invisible.

The stitches are overlapped frequently so that there is no distance between them. Their size is the same.

Patch or applique - knight's move

If repairing a hole does not allow you to make it invisible, perform an appliqué. It will hide a visible flaw and become a stylish decorative element, thereby reviving your favorite item.

You can make the application yourself or buy a ready-made one. As a rule, factory appliqués have an adhesive base and are easily attached to the fabric with a hot iron. After several washes, they may come off. It is better to additionally secure them with threads.

If you decide to make the applique yourself, you can use different materials. Jeans and leather combine effectively. You can use beads, braid, decorative buttons, or simply fabric of different textures. The scope of your imagination is not limited.

Floral motifs add grace, and ethnic motifs add style. Kitties, butterflies, fish - all this turns jeans into a cute and cozy thing.

Golden tones will make your jeans look luxurious.

If the applique is placed on a piece of denim and sewn onto a hole in the form of a pocket, then you, in addition, increase the functionality of your jeans. After all, a pocket is never superfluous.

Hole on the butt

  1. For restoration you will need a piece of denim. Very often, manufacturers include a piece of fabric of the same color with a new item just in case you need to repair the item. If you don’t have such a piece of fabric, then any other dense texture will do. A patch is cut out of it.
  2. We turn the jeans inside out and place our patch on the hole. Next, adhesive fabric is applied on top. It's a little more than a patch. Don't get confused. The rough adhesive surface should be in contact with a piece of our denim patch. Cover everything with another piece of fabric. This will prevent glue from getting on the iron.
  3. All that remains is to iron the entire resulting “shelf”, but first be sure to spray it with water.
  4. The front side of the hole is processed with a zigzag seam using frequent stitches with a maximum stitch width. The lines should overlap each other by 0.1 cm.
  5. We pull the threads to the wrong side and tie them so that the stitches do not unravel. Cut off the remaining adhesive fabric with scissors.

Hole in the knee

The hole that appears on the knee is very noticeable. You can mend it using the plaster method described above.

In this case, there is one important point: it is inconvenient to lay the seam, so you will have to rip the jeans along the outer side seam from the wrong side by about 20 cm. The hole will thus be exactly in the middle of the ripped part.

We remove the factory and overlaid stitches with nail scissors. At the same time, we leave the ends of the threads so that they serve as a guide for the final assembly.

If the color of the jeans at the knee is not monochromatic, resembling a gradient, then you will have to use several colors that match the tone.

Hole between legs

Maximum care is required to sew up the holes that have formed between the legs. You can't do it without a patch. It is applied from the wrong side and secured with pins for convenience.

We apply a seam around the perimeter of the patch. On the front side, the frayed edge of the hole is also caught on the patch.

If the size of the hole is quite impressive, then applying a patch would be the best option.

It is better to make an applique on children's jeans.

With an original design, your jeans will always be in an advantageous position.

Choose the right shape of the patch, which can be taken from old jeans; it can be a tone lighter or darker, the main thing is that it looks good. In addition to choosing the right patch, you need to choose the right threads that will look good against the background of the patch and jeans. The patch is sewn with a line stitch along the edges of the hole.

If a hole appears on the back pockets, it can be hidden using appliqués that do not need to be sewn up. It is enough to place the applique in place of the hole and iron it with an iron. You can buy applications in special stores.

It is much more difficult to hide the hole that has appeared between the legs. Such a hole can be sewn up by hand or with a sewing machine. If you use a sewing machine, then you need to make zigzag stitches; in cases where there is no machine, then such a hole is sewn up from the inside out, capturing only the edges. The seam should be tight and durable. Below we will provide complete instructions on how to properly sew up holes.

How to sew up holes correctly: instructions

  • Take a needle and thread that will harmoniously match the color of the torn clothing. If the material of the clothing is thick, then you will need a thicker needle.
  • Insert the thread into the needle; you can use a needle threader if the eye of the needle is too narrow.
  • Tie knots at the end of the thread.
  • Proceed to stitching the hole. You need to sew from the inside of the garment, along the edges of the seam, while tightening the thread tightly.
  • While sewing, look from the back to see what the seam looks like. After the hole is sewn up, make a knot and cut the thread.

Before sewing up a hole in your clothing, you need to select a thread that will match the color.

Sometimes even the most reliable things fail, one awkward move and your jacket is torn in the most visible place and then the question arises of how to sew up a hole in the jacket so that it is not visible. How to make a hole invisible, in this article you will learn all the universal sewing methods that will help you return things to their original appearance without the services of a seamstress. Read on and you will learn how to repair a torn jacket, depending on the material of the product and the type of hole.

The jacket is torn - what to do?

The material from which outerwear is made is not always of ideal quality; it happens that an expensive jacket bursts at the seams from awkward movement. To avoid such situations, use these methods:

  • Sew (darn) the gap;
  • Seal;
  • Mask with reflective tape or clothing sticker;
  • Apply a fashionable patch;
  • Glue stickers, embroidery, applique.

The choice of repair method largely depends on both the material of the item and the location of the hole. You can stick a sticker if the jacket is torn in a visible place, but sewing up a Bolognese jacket is not entirely aesthetically pleasing. Let's take a closer look at the methods of repairing outerwear depending on the type of damage, for example, how to seal a leather jacket at home and much more you will find below.

How to fix a hole in a jacket at the seam

If the jacket is torn at the seam, then we use the simplest method of repair. We are not making anything up; such a hole can be sewn up with thread and a needle. A seam rip can also be repaired using a sewing machine, but not many people have one.

What the repair process looks like:

  1. Match the threads to the color of the jacket;
  2. If there is a lining, then open it, this will make it easier to work with the torn seam;
  3. Thread the needle and carefully sew up the hole. Sew so that the new line becomes a continuation of the old one, and the seam is not much different from the factory one;
  4. Sew up the lining and turn the jacket inside out.

If you don’t want to rip the lining, sew the jacket up with a hidden seam. You need:

  1. Insert a needle from the wrong side of the fabric (so that the knot on the thread is not visible) and sew a hole on the front side with parallel stitches;
  2. Maintain equal distance between stitches;
  3. Once the hole is completely sewn up, fasten the thread and hide it inside the jacket;

Important! You can disguise a torn seam on a jacket using braid or reflective tape. During the decorating process, you can experiment with the color and length of the braid, as well as sewing methods.

  • The braid can not only disguise a torn seam, but also make the jacket more original;
  • Reflective tape sewn along the entire length of the jacket will cover defects and make you more visible in the dark.

How to hide a hole under a zipper

This technique will help if the cut on the jacket is in a place where you can insert a zipper, thereby covering the damaged area.

Important! Be sure to insert the zipper on the other side, maintaining symmetry, so you get an original design.

To make a torn jacket look like new, use decorative buttons or rivets instead of zippers. They usually sell a spare piece of fabric with the jacket, take it and close the slit, then punch it with snaps. This way you will get a kind of decorative element.

Bolognese jacket repair

Bologna is a compacted artificial fabric made of polymer threads that are treated with a water-repellent and airtight composition. Bolognese jackets provide excellent protection from rain and damp fog; they are suitable for hiking and outdoor recreation.

Important! The inventor of this material lived in Italy in the city of Bologna, hence the name of the fabric and jacket.

Clothes made from Bologna are very popular and irreplaceable in the wet, cold season of the year; this is precisely the quality that is valuable in them. The downside is that the rubberized fabric is not tear-resistant enough, so jacket owners often look for an answer to the question of how to put a patch on a bologna jacket, because the material is not so easy to sew up. Common causes of damage to a Bolognese jacket:

  • Burnt by a cigarette or other hot object;
  • Cut (by a blade or sharp object);
  • Hooks from a nail, branch, hook, etc.

You will need the following materials for work:

To repair a polyester jacket with your own hands, you will need:

  • Glue “Super Moment” or KP-1;
  • For degreasing, acetone or gasoline;
  • A piece of fabric for a patch, matching the color;
  • Polyethylene or non-woven fabric;
  • Application;
  • Iron;
  • Gauze or soft natural fabric.

A Bologna jacket can be sealed in several ways using the above materials. Let's look at each method in more detail.

Method 1 - using a fabric patch

To seal the hole, select a piece of fabric and glue that is suitable in size, texture and color.

Proceed like this:

  1. Turn the jacket inside out and place it on a flat surface;
  2. Degrease the tear area from the reverse side with acetone or gasoline;
  3. Apply a thin layer of Super Moment or KP-1 glue to a piece of patch;
  4. Connect the edges of the hole exactly;
  5. Apply the patch;
  6. Place the area of the jacket to be repaired under a press for a few minutes;
  7. Turn the jacket inside out and inspect the result. If traces of tearing are visible, disguise them with appliqué or other suitable elements.

Important! You can stick thematic inscriptions or pictures on the sports jacket, at the tear site.

Method 2 - use polyethylene or non-woven fabric

How to seal a polyester jacket, prepare: a special tape of dry glue (non-woven fabric), a piece of fabric matching the color, an iron, gauze.

Important! Instead of non-woven fabric, you can use regular cellophane.

Detailed instructions:

  1. Turn the product inside out and place it on the table;
  2. Spread the lining to get to the cut;
  3. Cut a piece of polyethylene or non-woven fabric slightly smaller than the patch;
  4. Connect the edges of the gap;
  5. Apply polyethylene (non-woven fabric) from the inside out and carefully smooth it out;
  6. Place a fabric patch on top of the polyethylene;
  7. Iron the joint with an iron, gauze or soft cloth. This will allow the polyethylene to melt and firmly fix the patch;
  8. Turn the product inside out and evaluate the result.

Perhaps the defect will be slightly noticeable, but you know about it, and those around you are unlikely to carefully peer at your jacket.

Repairing a burnt hole

The hole from the burn must be eliminated. This problem can be solved in different ways, depending on the size and style of the product, as well as the volume of the burn. Let's consider solution options:

  • If the product has different rivets, embroideries, patterns, then sew additional fittings in place of the burn.
  • A whole burnt hole has appeared on the jacket; it should be masked with patches on both sides (front and back) and add a patch that matches the item. First glue the patch on the wrong side, and cut the second flap a little larger than the hole. Then glue the patch on the front side, disguise the patch with applique or embroidery.
  • If the hole is on the front of the garment, cover it with a patch pocket.
  • You can hide a hole on a sleeve, chest or pocket with iron-on adhesive or embroidery.

Important! For men's jackets, choose decorative elements in a strict, understated style, such as patches made of leather. For children, patches with their favorite characters or cars and emoticons are suitable.

There are many ways to fix things, choose your favorite and get to work. If you doubt your abilities or the hole is too large, then contact a sewing studio for help.

For many, jeans are a wardrobe staple. However regardless of their cost over time they wear out. The most vulnerable place for a tear to appear is the space between the legs. But you don’t have to throw away your favorite jeans right away; you can increase their lifespan by using a special hidden seam technique and sewing them by hand.

Repairing frayed jeans

In order to avoid having to sew up holes in your favorite trousers, you should treat the item with care and care for it appropriately from the first day of purchase. But let's consider a situation where the jeans are already worn out.

For example, on jeans between the legs not only abrasions have appeared, but the seam itself is starting to unravel. To prevent fabric tearing, follow these steps:

How to make a patch between your legs

This method is used for a relatively small area of abrasion, that is, when there is no obvious hole yet, but abrasion is already noticeable. To prevent the situation from getting worse over time, you should immediately strengthen the denim fabric. For these purposes, you will need patches made of denim material, specialized fabric glue, or self-adhesive tape, popularly called “cobweb”.

Apply thermal tape to the worn jeans fabric, covering it with a denim patch on top. The durability of this repair depends on the quality of the “web”. Also, do not forget that the more often you do it, the less the patch will last. However, if you stitch around its perimeter, it will last much longer.

If time permits, try looking in specialized sewing stores for ready-made denim patches, the other side of which is made of self-adhesive tape. This type of repair is performed using an iron. However, if the hole is large enough, the wearing process after this type of repair will become completely uncomfortable. Since the fabric becomes significantly denser, and therefore wrinkles worse, this area will be quite rough, which will cause discomfort during wear.

Do it yourself or manually

Mend jeans can be done in several ways:

  • mend jeans between the legs using a machine;
  • seek help from a workshop so that a specialist can properly patch the hole;
  • sew it up yourself on the knee, holding it with your elbows, which is the cheapest method, but at the same time quite painstaking.

Blind stitch patch by hand

If the hole has formed on the knee, and it is large enough, during the repair process you should follow the step-by-step instructions below:

Ways to avoid scuffs

In order not to bother with patches and repairs of your favorite jeans, you should follow some wearing and washing rules.

Keep in mind that when buying jeans that are too tight for you, or, conversely, are too loose, be prepared that in the future this will lead to holes that will have to be sealed. Low-waist styles also tend to fray on the inner thigh. In order to avoid troubles, you should buy jeans strictly according to your size, without making allowances for the fact that the fabric will stretch during wear and the jeans will fit more comfortably. As practice shows, not every jeans stretches to the desired size. Well, just in case, inspect the jeans for manufacturing defects.

Gentle wash

It is very important to read the label, which contains recommendations for caring for a particular item of clothing, but if you do not have such a habit, accept the fact that absolutely all jeans will sooner or later receive damage that is difficult to repair - on the inside of the thigh .

The front should be turned inside out. It is best to wash them separately or with other pairs of jeans. Don't do it too often wash them. But infrequent cleaning also has a bad effect on the condition of the fabric, since small particles of dirt become fine abrasives, which fray the contacting parts of the trousers while walking.

If you wash your jeans in cool water on a gentle cycle without using bleach, they will last for several years.

Tumble drying also causes damage to denim. In order to minimize the harm from machine washing, jeans should be dried naturally by hanging them on the dryer. These tips will help you extend the life of your favorite item. If your jeans have abrasions, you already know how to deal with it. However, the time will come when you still have to buy new ones, despite all the efforts made.

In Holland, a man, an avid denim lover, wore his favorite jeans for more than 7 years, while repairing them almost daily. After they fell into complete disrepair, several fashion magazines became interested in the situation and raffled them off in a competition at a popular clothing store.
