Hair straightening without an iron or hair dryer. I tried all the methods of hair straightening on myself: I share my experience You can straighten your hair without ironing

How funny and paradoxical our lives are: those with curls want to have straight hair, and spend a lot of effort, time and money on it, while girls with straight and even hair endlessly twist and curl their curls and secretly envy their curls. Since childhood, I had long, straight hair, but after pregnancy and the birth of a child, it changed greatly in structure and began to curl chaotically. This fact upset me very much. Since I was happy with straight hair and, unlike many of my friends, I never wanted to become curly. And if I wanted to wear my curls, I simply curled them.

But things turned out the way they did, and I decided that somehow I couldn’t return my hair to its previous look and shape. Bringing my idea to life turned out to be much more difficult than I thought.

Hair straightening with cosmetic products

I started with the simplest thing: I purchased special shampoos, balms and other hair cosmetics to try to deal with the problem at home without resorting to the services of a hairdresser. The choice of cosmetics for straightening hair is so huge that you can easily get confused. Naturally, I didn’t have time to try everything. I will write about those that I have personally experienced.

So let's start with shampoo

To obtain the required effect, the shampoo must include: silicone and silk proteins. The latter are especially important because they are the ones that best promote hair straightening.

The main principle of all these cosmetics is to weigh down your hair, causing it to straighten. The heavier the hair, the smoother it becomes.

In addition to shampoos and conditioners, there are many more products

  • For example, thermo-cream for leveling “ShockWave” . The impression from its use is twofold: on the one hand, the hair became shiny and smooth, on the other, the result did not last long. Apply to damp hair and dry naturally, without a hair dryer. I will say this: the price absolutely does not correspond to the effect obtained, since this product is also expensive.
  • Smoothing cream for thermal styling “L’OrealParis, StudioLineHotLiss” . I can say with complete confidence: the effect is amazing, your hair will be straight for a long time.

Advice : Apply a little more of this product than indicated on the label. BUT! It is very important not to overdo it, otherwise your hair will appear dirty and greasy.

  • What I definitely don’t recommend trying is NiveaHairCare, Straight&Easy, hair straightening balm . The effect is so-so, a C grade, but that’s not the worst thing. The worst thing about this balm is the smell. First of all, very unpleasant. Secondly, it is very durable. It is impossible to interrupt it with any perfume. Therefore, if suddenly someone recommends this remedy to you, it is better to refuse. You will be very disappointed!

Hair straightening with folk remedies

Summarizing

Of course, there are many more ways to straighten your hair. You can buy a straightener, for example (I want to buy one in the near future, while I use a hairdryer). You can go to a salon and get keratin hair straightening. But this is definitely not my option, I don’t want and can’t risk my hair like that, because I’ve heard a lot of negative reviews about keratin smoothing. Therefore, I would rather be slightly curly than bald.

In addition, any chemical hair straightening is contraindicated for me personally (I am hypertensive), since it is strictly forbidden to straighten hair using chemicals if:

  • You are pregnant.
  • You are a nursing mother.
  • You have chronic diseases: hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, seborrhea, asthma.
  • You have cancer or are after chemotherapy.
  • Your immune system is weakened.
  • Your metabolism is impaired.

By the way, in fairness it must be said that all of the above methods for straightening hair at home really give results.

Some for a short period, and some for a very long time. Plus, they are much less harmful and more affordable, which means that a much larger number of women can use these methods than in salons.

How to straighten your hair without a straightening iron or a hair dryer if these products only damage your curls? Read on

Why should you avoid using a straightener or hair dryer when styling?

Without a doubt, these are the best tools for perfectly smooth styling. However, if you use them often, not a trace will remain of the shine of your hair. They will be dull and brittle. Especially if heat treatment tools are used on dyed hair that is already damaged.

Many alternative options are offered in beauty salons, but the procedures there are usually expensive, so savvy girls have found other ways to quickly transform curls into straight, silky strands.

Quick hair straightening without a curling iron or hair dryer is possible

Quickly straightening your hair to perfection without using a curling iron or straightener at home is quite difficult. Folk remedies require regular use, and for chemical procedures you need to visit a beauty salon. But what to do if there is very little time left before the event, and unruly curls do not want to be styled? In this case, specially developed cosmetics come to the rescue.

Brands that produce hair care products also produce special lines of hair smoothing products. These are creams, serums, sprays, gels and balms. They will help fight light curls, but tight curls are unlikely to be straightened.

It is impossible to single out a universal remedy. You need to try different formulations to find the ideal ones for your hair. The most effective products on the cosmetic market are from Paul Mitchell, L`Oreal Professionnel, Tigi, Green Light and Alterna.

Smoothing creams have the consistency of a hair mask or lotion. However, there are spray options. They are equipped with a dispenser. Apply the product to damp curls. Also performs the function of ultraviolet protection. Among the disadvantages is incompatibility with ammonia paint.

Straightening serums are similar to sour cream. They are applied to damp hair evenly along the entire length. You can air dry it if you don't use a hairdryer.

Bonding oils are produced in small bottles with a dispenser. They play the role of thermal protection and also perfectly straighten curls. The oil should be rubbed in your palms and rubbed along the growth line.

Leveling sprays can be used on wet or dry hair. The downside of the product is that it contains silicone additives, which can accumulate and destroy the structure of the strands.

Advice! When choosing cosmetics for hair straightening, you need to take into account its type, length and condition.

Chemical hair straightening

The technology of chemical (permanent) hair straightening is similar to perm. The hairdresser applies harsh chemicals to the strands. After rinsing, the hair remains perfectly smooth.

For chemical straightening, sodium hydroxide or caustic soda, guanidine hydroxide and ammonium thioglycolate are used. The first option is used to straighten curly and unruly strands. Since sodium hydroxide is a highly alkaline substance that reacts with keratin, splitting off water in the process. When using this method, there is a chance of irreversibly damaging the hair structure.

Gentle chemical straightening is a procedure using ammonium thioglycolate. It does not destroy the cuticle, so it does not damage the hair much. It will not be possible to straighten complex curls using this method, but eliminating waves is easy.

In general, the procedure of chemical hair straightening is not recommended because exposure to strong substances can lead not only to damaged hair, but also to severe burns to the scalp.

To avoid side effects, you need to consult a hairdresser. For example, the procedure will cause irreparable harm to thin and dry hair. On the contrary, it will dry out oily strands.

It is not recommended to chemically straighten your hair at home, as you may miss strands at the back of your head, apply the product unevenly, or allow the straightener to get on your skin.

Advice! To maintain the condition of your hair after permanent straightening, you need to wash it with special shampoos and use nourishing, restorative masks. The supply of vitamins and microelements also depends on nutrition.

Keratin hair straightening

Keratin straightening is also a salon procedure, but differs from permanent straightening in the absence of exposure to chemicals on the hair. Among the advantages of straightening, girls highlight:

  • easy combing;
  • compatibility with all hair types;
  • the hair becomes smooth and shiny;
  • styling does not change even from high humidity, rain, snow or wind;
  • the effect lasts up to five months;
  • protection of hair from adverse environmental influences (dust, sunlight, gases and fumes);
  • hair does not become frizzy or electrified;
  • can be used as early as two weeks after chemical straightening, if you are dissatisfied with the result.

Among the significant disadvantages of the procedure are mainly the high cost. Other inconveniences are temporary. For example, you should not wash your hair for 72 hours after styling. It is also not recommended to be exposed to rain or go to the pool after the procedure. For three days after visiting the salon, you should not expose your hair to mechanical stress. That is, you will have to give up braids, buns and ponytails for a while. Allergic reactions to individual components of the product are possible.

Advice! If your scalp is damaged or your hair is prone to hair loss, it is better to avoid the keratin straightening procedure.

Lamination of curls

Hair lamination, as one of the straightening methods, is suitable for slightly curly hair that is difficult to style. This is a care technology that protects the hair structure from negative effects, so it is suitable even for perky curls, making them more attractive.

If you laminate naturally straight hair in order to save yourself from daily styling, you can get the excellent effect of always obedient straight strands.

The procedure can be done at home, but without certain skills and experience, most likely, the result will not be the same. Therefore, it is better to first go to a salon to watch professionals at work.

There is a special recipe for home lamination. You can visually increase the volume of thin and brittle hair with the help of gelatin. It outperforms store-bought products due to its natural collagen protein content. It is he who covers the hair with a protective film and makes it thicker and stronger.

The disadvantage of gelatin lamination is that the visible effect will not appear until the third application. The hair gradually accumulates the effect and after the fourth wash, it becomes shiny, silky and smooth.

Gelatin mask recipe (for short hair):

  1. Pour 1 tbsp into a glass container. gelatin and pour 3 tbsp. cooled boiled water, mix well.
  2. Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner, dry until damp.
  3. Check the gelatin. If it has not completely dissolved, you can heat it in a water bath.
  4. Add 1/2 tbsp to gelatin. l. favorite hair mask.
  5. Apply the resulting mixture to your hair, spacing 1 cm from the roots.
  6. Place a plastic bag or shower cap on your head, wrap it in a towel and warm it with a hairdryer for 10–15 minutes.
  7. Leave your hair for 45 minutes for the gelatin to act.
  8. Rinse off the mask with running water.

Advice!For curly hair, lamination is not suitable as a straightener. The procedure will improve the appearance of your curls and help make straight strands perfectly even and well-groomed.

Oil-based hair masks and creams

Creams and masks allow you to make your hair smooth thanks to its oily structure. They weigh down the hair and smooth out microscales, so the strands become smooth, frizz-free and shiny.

The masks, which are made at home, do not contain harmful substances, so a beneficial effect is obtained.

The first mask, with which you can straighten your hair without using a straightener or hair dryer, contains olive, castor and burdock oil. The mixture of substances must be heated in a water bath and applied evenly over the entire length. Leave the mask on your hair for at least 40 minutes. For the best effect, the mask should be insulated by wearing a plastic bag and a towel or scarf. Wash off the mixture with shampoo three times. For rinsing, use non-hot water mixed with lemon juice.

Hairdressers recommend making an olive oil mask before bed, as it needs to be washed off after a long period of time. After applying heated olive oil to the curls along the entire length, they need to be wrapped in film and wrapped in a scarf. Rinse your hair with cold acidified water.

Mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with a tablespoon of olive or almond oil. Leave on hair for forty minutes and rinse with mild shampoo.

Advice! To prevent hair from becoming greasy after oils, it should be washed with shampoo and running water at least three times.

Traditional hair straightening methods

If a girl wants to not only straighten her hair, but also make it healthier, make it manageable and beautiful, it is recommended to care for her hair using folk remedies. It takes time to make them and wait for the visible effect, but the result justifies the means.

The most common hair straightening option: masks made from vegetable oils. Olive, burdock and castor are most suitable, because they are rich in vitamin B. The straightening mask should be kept warm for 30–40 minutes, then rinsed with water and rinsed with a vinegar solution. The effect will be noticeable in 2–3 weeks.

Masks made from apple cider vinegar and cognac promote easy combing and straightening of hair. The alcoholic drink should be applied to the strands without getting on the skin and left for half an hour. No need to insulate. Apple cider vinegar is diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio and a few drops of olive oil are added. Leave on hair also for 30 minutes.

Colorless henna makes hair heavier and restores its structure. If you add grape seed oil to it, you will get an excellent mask for straightening and creating volume.

A sweet tea mask is suitable for girls with dry and normal hair types. To prepare it, you need to brew strong tea with 1 tsp. granulated sugar. The sweet liquid is applied along the entire length, the curls are combed and left until completely dry. The main thing is to correctly calculate the amount of sugar for the length of your hair, because too much sweetness will stick the strands together, and too little will not give the desired effect.

Beer has excellent fixing properties. It should be applied to clean, dried strands and combed until they are straightened. The main disadvantage of the product is its persistent specific smell.

The main rule for the effectiveness of traditional methods is regularity. Only constant straightening procedures will lead to the visible desired result.

Advice! Folk remedies for hair straightening are aimed at restoring the structure, and volume, grooming and straightness are a nice bonus. Only well-groomed hair looks attractive.

Many girls whose hair is naturally unruly, sticking out in different directions or curly, constantly dream of straightening it. Various folk remedies, advice from friends, expensive sprays and lotions are used. Every day, strands are pulled out with an iron, which leads to their fragility, dryness, and loss. Not everyone knows, but there are many ways to straighten hair without ironing. You can resort to salon treatments or use home options to ensure smooth curls of any length.

Depending on the length, structure and type of hair, you can choose gentle options for straightening strands at home or in the salon. All these procedures do not require the use of a hair straightener that is harmful to the health of the hair and do not cause any noticeable harm. The ends will not break, and the strands will remain smooth and voluminous.

Here are the most popular ways to straighten strands without ironing:

  1. Salon straightening of curls using chemical compounds and preparations with keratin or silicone. The master applies the product along the entire length in several stages, waiting for the formation of a protective film. After this, a fixing oil is sprayed on, giving the curls smoothness for 4-5 weeks. This procedure is simple and quite popular, but it is not cheap and has a short-lived wash-off effect.
  2. Daily use of smoothing sprays, creams, oils or serums. They can be sold in the form of a spray or a thick creamy product, applied to dry ends or damp strands along the entire length. Some drugs additionally improve the health of the hair structure and require follow-up.
  3. Homemade homemade masks. Most often, gelatin straightening, applying oil mixtures or rinsing with various decoctions and herbal infusions are used.
  4. hairdryer using round brushes, mousse and various sprays. This method allows you to achieve a long-term effect throughout the day, making your curls smooth and voluminous.

Keratin hair straightening in the salon

A salon procedure for straightening unruly or frizzy locks is becoming increasingly popular. The process takes several hours, but the effect lasts from 3 to 5 weeks, depending on subsequent home care and the initial hair structure. In addition to smoothness, the curls receive nutrition, become healthy and shiny. The before and after results can be seen in the photo; the differences become noticeable immediately.

The cost of keratin straightening is quite high; specialists charge from 2 to 5 thousand rubles for one procedure. The whole technique consists of washing your hair with a special cleansing shampoo, applying a keratin composition with silicone, securing the result with a restorative spray and conditioner.

You can do this effectively even at home. This is explained in detail in a clear training video.

Hair care at home requires special effort and care, especially such a process as hair straightening. At the same time, experts advise refraining from using irons and hair dryers.

Despite the fact that a hair dryer and straightener are the optimal styling tools, you should avoid them. This is due to the fact that after using them, the hair loses its shine and becomes more brittle.

Big problems arise with dyed hair, as it is overheated due to exposure to chemicals.

The high temperature at which the iron and hair dryer work removes moisture from the hair, disrupting its structure. Experts note that such tools can be used, but not very often. Their constant use can lead to irreversible processes.

How to comb your hair to straighten it

Hair straightening can be done using a comb. When combing your curls, it is recommended to simultaneously massage the scalp. By running the teeth of a comb over your head, you can stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles. This tones the hair follicles, making hair straighter.

A smoothing serum is a product that combines a balm, mousse and mask. This serum is designed to restore damaged curls.

The combing process should begin from the roots and slowly continue to the end of the hair. It is very important not to make jerking movements, as this will cause the hair to tangle and may damage the hair follicle.

It is recommended to start by thoroughly washing and drying your hair. After this, it is recommended to treat the foil with a protective agent. The hair needs to be divided into the desired number of curls, which are covered on both sides with prepared foil.

A well-heated iron must be passed through the curls from the roots several times. The number of treatments depends on the type of hair and its length. After the procedure is completed, the foil can be removed and the hair can be treated with hairspray. The use of foil and protective mousse allows you to minimize the damage caused by the iron.

When preparing the mixture, the gelatin should be completely dissolved, avoiding the presence of lumps. Remove the mixture from the steam bath when the mixture thickens a little. The consistency should not be too thick and should not drip from the hair.

Do not allow the mixture to come into contact with the skin, so as not to cause peeling of the skin. You can repeat this procedure once a week.

Creams and mousses for smoothing hair

In the process of hair care, it is worth using various creams and mousses. The choice of product must be made based on the specific characteristics of the hair and skin. To eliminate the possibility of allergies.

You need to start stretching your hair using a comb and a hairdryer from the end of the hair, gradually moving towards the crown.

Leveling sprays

You can straighten your hair at home without ironing using a straightening spray.. But for this you need to use a hairdryer.

Which spray to choose is not too important; most products have similar compositions and properties. This product neutralizes the negative effects of hot air when using a hair dryer.

The spray must be applied evenly, and can be applied to both dry and wet hair.. Particular attention should be paid to the hair roots, applying a spray to which guarantees reliable results. It is recommended to use this product daily until complete recovery. It can be made with the addition of bread. First you need to heat half a glass of milk with the addition of one spoon of honey. Then leave the prepared bread mixture for an hour.

The reheated mask should be applied to the hair without rinsing for 40 minutes. Then you should wash your hair thoroughly under running water.

Gelatin mask for straightening hair without an iron or hair dryer at home

Applying such a mask is very similar to hair lamination. The preparation is slightly different; first you need to boil water. Then mix 3 tablespoons of slightly cooled water and one spoon of gelatin.

For additional nutrition of hair, cosmetologists recommend adding some balm or mousse to the mask.

Vinegar mask

Vinegar mask is a folk remedy recommended for restoring dry or oily hair. The vinegar solution makes hair softer and silkier, while eliminating excess oiliness.

The dosage of the mask components depends on the hair type and is selected individually.

Sometimes it is necessary to repeat the procedure several times to find the optimal consistency.

Beer masks for dry hair

Sweet tea for straightening curls

If you refuse to use a straightening iron, you can straighten your hair at home by using sweet tea, without drying your curls with a hairdryer. Which recipe to choose depends on your hair type and color.

The tea is great for dry and normal hair types. It is made in the form of strong tea with added sugar. The amount of sugar depends on the length and thickness of the hair. For blondes, it is recommended to add lemon to tea, since citric acid has a brightening property.

The finished product is applied to damp curls, while the hair should be combed. As soon as the hair becomes smooth, it needs to be given rest until it dries completely. The effect of using this product lasts for several days, which is its main advantage.

The main thing is to choose the optimal consistency of the tea during preparation by adding sugar. Since too concentrated a product or a small amount of sugar will not achieve the desired effect.

Herbal infusions

Masks from infusions should be made depending on the type of hair. A combination of various herbs is recommended.

To speed up hair growth use:

  • nettle;
  • calamus root;
  • succession.

An herbal mask is made by steaming a tablespoon of selected herbs with a glass of boiling water. You need to infuse the mixture for about half an hour. Cosmetologists do not recommend frequent use of such infusions, so it is optimal to prepare masks based on them.

Almost any nourishing mask contains a liquid base, which can be an infusion of herbs.

  2. It is necessary to use protective products such as serums and mousses.

Iron: simple and affordable

One of the easiest ways to straighten stubborn curls is to use a flat iron. There are many negative opinions, negative reviews. In fact, it's not all that sad. Perhaps the first straightening irons seriously damaged your hair, but modern devices work more carefully and have special coatings.

To further reduce the harm of high temperatures, you need to use thermal protection. It will prevent drying, splitting, and subsequent damage to the hair. You also need to remember that you cannot straighten wet hair with an iron. And the main point is to set the temperature correctly. The most reliable information on this topic is not on the Internet, but in the instructions for the device.

Correct use of the iron:

  1. Wash your hair. Apply styling product along the entire length; often it already contains thermal protection.
  2. Dry. It's better to do it naturally.
  3. Separate the first strand and comb thoroughly. It is better to start from the back of the head, gradually moving towards the face.
  4. Grab your hair with a heated iron and move it down. If necessary, repeat again.

After straightening all the strands, you need to carefully iron the hair together and wait until it cools completely. Additionally, fix the installation with varnish.

Important! The iron should not be used on split or damaged hair. Thermal protection only reduces the damage caused by heat, but does not protect 100%.

Hair straightening with a hairdryer

A hairdryer is a great alternative to a straightener, but it is more difficult to use on your own. You need to learn how to control the air flow and pull out the curls at the same time. Experience will come with time and training. The disadvantage of this method is the short-term effect. It may last until the next wash, but more often the curls begin to curl or light waves appear a little earlier.

In addition to a hairdryer, you will need a fine-toothed comb or a brush (round brush). Just as in the case of an iron, do not forget about thermal protection. It will keep your hair healthy and reduce the negative effects of hot air.

How to straighten your curls with a hairdryer:

  1. Wash your hair. Straightening is done only on clean hair. If you don’t have time for this or have problems with water, then you can simply wet the strands well. Additionally, you can apply fixing agents.
  2. Divide your hair into three sections to make working easier. Secure each part separately with a clamp.
  3. Separate a small strand and slide a comb under it, close to the head. If the root volume is not needed, then you can lower it a little lower.
  4. Pull out the strand and at the same time dry it with a stream of hot air from a hair dryer from top to bottom.
  5. Separate the next strand, repeat, process all the hair of this part one by one, then remove the next clip and repeat.

If no styling was used before drying, then it is advisable to use hairspray immediately after styling; it will fix the hairstyle and help maintain the result.

Keratin straightening at home

Keratin is quite expensive, and the cost of a straightening procedure in a salon is also not cheap. But many manufacturers of professional cosmetics have released products and kits for use at home. The price of one procedure is two or even three times lower. As for the effect, it will directly depend on the quality of the product and correct use. It is very important to study the instructions for a specific product, as the keratin exposure time may vary.

How to do keratin straightening:

  1. Hair is thoroughly washed with deep cleaning shampoo. It is necessary to reveal the scales, remove styling products, balms, and fat.
  2. Rinse and dry naturally or with cold air from a hairdryer.
  3. Comb thoroughly with a wide comb.
  4. Apply the keratin composition using a brush. It is better to separate small strands. You need to retreat a centimeter from the scalp.
  5. Leave for 20 or 30 minutes depending on the information on the keratin packaging.
  6. Dry with a hairdryer.
  7. Use a flat iron to straighten your hair, preferably using a ceramic-coated device. Temperature 230°C.

The most important thing in technology is careful processing of strands and straightening. When the strands are heated with an iron, keratin enters the inner layers and is sealed. Usually they go through the hair 3-5 times. It is important to do the pulling immediately in the right direction so that creases do not form. When using keratin at home, it is better to ask someone for help.

Important: There is no need to save keratin composition. If it is not enough, the effect of the procedure will be much lower. You will also have to re-straighten earlier than expected, which will lead to additional costs.

Hair straightening with edible gelatin

Gelatin masks act in several directions at once: they make the hair smooth, seal the ends, give a dazzling shine and straighten the hair. This is an alternative to expensive keratin. Of course, you won’t be able to turn a curled curl into a perfectly straight strand, but it is quite possible to improve the condition and make the curls more manageable.

On average, the effect of gelatin masks disappears after 1-2 shampoos, but it can accumulate. If the procedure is done at least once over 4-5 weeks, the hair will noticeably transform. Mirror shine, smoothness, lack of cross-section will be noticeable to the naked eye.

Gelatin straightening mask

Compound:
Gelatin – 2 tbsp. l.
Hair balm or mask – 2 tbsp. l.
Water – 6 tbsp. l.

Application:
Combine the prescription amount of gelatin and water at room temperature, stir, and leave for 20 minutes. During this time you need to wash your hair. Dissolve the swollen gelatin in a water bath, add the prepared hair mask or any balm to the mixture, stir. Separate the strand, comb and lubricate with gelatin mixture, carefully stretch and straighten by hand. Treat all hair. Connect the strands, iron and straighten them together, place them in a circle on your head like a wreath. Put on a plastic cap, warm your head with a hairdryer through it, and leave for half an hour. Rinse off with warm water. Comb and straighten hair immediately while it is wet.

Hair straightening with oils

This method is suitable for owners of wavy, damaged, fluffy and porous curls. Oil masks add weight, fill, give a well-groomed look and prevent hair from frizz. If everything is done correctly, there will be much less curls. The undoubted advantage of this method is the benefits and restoration of hair.

What oils are useful to use:

  • coconut;
  • olive;
  • peach;
  • castor;
  • burdock

You can take them one at a time or mix them together, but be sure to warm them up before applying. Lubricate the strands generously, especially the ends, and comb them immediately with a comb. Keep under the cap for 1-2 hours. After rinsing, you should immediately comb your hair and straighten it with a comb; to improve the effect, you can additionally use a hairdryer.
