The Mystery of the Three Orphans

The anxiety was not easy to overcome. This looks like a joke, and if you tell it to anyone, they are unlikely to understand it, but they will probably laugh. Maxim is not some boy who spent his adult life next to his mother’s skirt and did not know which way to approach a woman. With vicious connections there is just complete order; by the age of thirty-one he had tried the entire list of the sinful menu, and had eaten to capacity. He was drawn to the sublime and the beautiful, but since both were in great short supply, Maxim took a time out, deciding to explore other aspects of life. He noted with satisfaction that the first slender legs he came across under his protruding ass no longer aroused the excitement of the hunt in him, which meant that Maxim had become selective. Temporary asceticism was compensated by work, hobbies and travel; fortunately, he is able to pay for personal requests with whims.

But when you are already enjoying the consciousness of your own willpower and the ability to find joy in the world around you (rather stingily with gifts), the fulfillment of desires suddenly falls on you. Maxim was one of those people to whom an uncle from heaven sends what they wished for subconsciously or even as a joke. It happens, it happens, but the lucky few are lucky, Maxim is clearly one of them. For him, the word “I want” works like a magic wand whispering in his ear in a human voice: “Here, dear. Whatever you want, you will get.” And if the heavens present a gift, then it must be one that makes your head spin, your body becomes light, as if in weightlessness, and as a result, your brain is guaranteed to turn off.

Maxim is not a fan of spending time in public places, where a motley crowd is annoyingly intrusive, cheap music is played, and it is also excessively loud. Nevertheless, he was dragged into the park to drink beer and eat crayfish, there he accidentally saw her, who was distinguished from the herd of vulgar females by her naturalness, some kind of unreal purity and something else that is practically never seen now. Laura was sitting on a bench, her long blue skirt completely covered her legs, but the soft fabric covered them so tightly that it completed all the nuances. The purse lay on her lap, and she rested her chin on her palm and looked at the fountain. And just like the jets of a fountain sparkled in the rays of the sun, her unrealistically blue eyes sparkled in the same way, revealing inner harmony, as if she had no problems, inviting eyes.

I saw and understood: passing by would be a big mistake. Maxim told his friends that he would leave them for a while, they moved towards the beer bar, and he fell on a bench nearby, crossed his legs and glanced sideways at the girl in blue. Offhand, she is about twenty-two years old, and, judging by her appearance, she is unfamiliar with vices, her pretty face has not been disfigured by stupidity, in short, she will have to tinker with her. Maxim was going through dating techniques in his memory so as not to get turned away after the first phrase, suddenly she spoke first:

“You shouldn’t have sat on this bench.” When the wind gusts, splashes fly here.

That's why her skirt is tight around her legs - she's just wet. Maxim enthusiastically entered into the dialogue:

- Why are you sitting here?

- I'm waiting for these impulses. I like it when it is sprayed with water dust, because it’s hot.

Confirming her words, a breeze blew across the fountain, the high jets changed direction, and thousands of microscopic droplets, pleasantly refreshing, fell onto the bench. Laura closed her eyes, exposing her face to the spray. Maxim noticed that droplets lingered in her hair, and in each there was a rainbow. There are no words, a brilliant person, all that remains is to throw a touchstone.

- There is a sure remedy for the heat.

- Air conditioner?

- Ice cream. Let's go to the cafe to cool off?

“Let’s go,” she agreed without breaking down, then stood up and introduced herself without extending her hand: “My name is Laura.”

- Larisa?

- No, Laura is without Larisa.

- And I’m Max... Maxim.

We ate ice cream, drank coffee, walked in the park and drank coffee again. Maxim turned off the phone so as not to be bothered by his friends who were not waiting for him at the beer bar. He, like a true naturalist, examined the smiling Laura, looking for her weak points, so that later, armed with knowledge about her, he could use them to his advantage. She was open, communicated easily and freely, at the same time, Maxim could not boast that he figured her out in order to get her into bed on the first visit. He took her home, arranged a date, then another, another... And so on for a month and a half. No bed! No kissing! Isn't it funny?

In any case, Maxim laughed at himself during this time and today, heading to Laura, but it’s stupid to worry before a date. Actually, he was not going on an ordinary date; for the first time in a month and a half of dating, Laura invited him to dinner, and in addition to dinner, there was a new acquaintance ahead, therefore, the excitement was to some extent justified. No, not justified. It seems that Maxim was going to the bride's party, although there was no talk of wedding rings, but Laura will introduce him... she didn't say with whom! It is clear that with her parents, nevertheless, in her understatement there was a certain intrigue that warmed up interest. By the way, she is twenty-five years old, and not less, as it seemed to him at first; in fact, the difference is small.

So, this is going to be a no-obligation dinner, what's the big deal? Where does the tremolo come from in the legs and arms? It's all about Laura. Over the course of a month and a half, Maxim became noticeably dumber, which was noted by his colleagues and friends. Either he thinks with the smile of an idiot, then he is distracted and makes a lot of mistakes at work, then he suddenly breaks down and rushes off to God knows where, without explaining anything. In general, I fell into lyrical insanity, but this state is damn pleasant.

Maxim parked the car in the back of the yard, checked that the doors were securely locked, and went up to the second floor. The house is Stalinist, but in decent condition - the entrance is clean, the walls are not shabby, they were recently painted, the light bulbs are in place, which means that the residents work together to maintain order. This suggests that people here know how to negotiate, hence Laura. A small nuance, but it complements the characterization.

She opened the door, and how her eyes shone with joy! Maxim entered a spacious hallway with a large antique mirror and handed Laura a package containing a box of chocolates, a bottle of champagne, pineapple and oranges. And I forgot about the bouquet of chrysanthemums sticking out under my arm.

I forgot because a young lady came out into the hallway, playfully biting her lower lip, she smiled at the guest, leaning her sharp shoulder against the door frame. But how similar she is to Laura... No, you need to see this! A natural clone, only a little younger.

“This is my sister,” said Laura.

Before he had time to come to his senses, another one appeared, and then Maxim’s eyes became completely square: the third girl was a copy of the first two. The same blonde-haired, blue-eyed, large-mouthed, tender as a marshmallow, more fragile - just thin, with transparent white skin. The girl did not smile at the guest, but warily studied him, as if she suspected him of something nasty. Yes, they are like nesting dolls that jumped out of each other, the only difference between the girls is their age - how can you not open your eyes and mouth?
