With the onset of summer, there has been more and more work to do in the garden, we need to pay attention to our favorite flowers, so I began to write more about them on the blog pages. And, unfortunately, there is very little time left for needlework.
For example, I I really like to crochet napkins, but the knitting takes a long time.
But then I was very attracted to Japanese crocheted napkins and, inspired, I finally finished my latest work - crocheted several an unusual napkin made of rings. I found this idea since I became acquainted with Japanese motifs and. Japanese motifs are so original and beautiful that I got hooked on them and bring them to life with great pleasure.
I found a crochet napkin pattern from a Japanese magazine on the Internet.
The pattern is a little unclear, so I won’t give it, but I will describe in detail the principle of knitting, which is quite simple and interesting at the same time.
For my napkin I used white and pink Iris yarn and a #1 crochet hook.
The napkin consists of several individual motifs.
Crochet Japanese napkin motif
We begin knitting the motif with white yarn.
- 3rd row: above each VP of the last row of the white ring we knit C1H, and between them - 1VP, picot from 3VP, 1VP.
At the end of the row, pull out a long loop and leave knitting.
We return to the white ring, connect it with the pink one and knit the 3rd row in the same way.
I connected the last loop of the white ring with the pink one, and the pink one with the white one. Although this connection was not shown on the diagram. But I decided that this gives a more finished look to the motif.
We cut off the excess threads and carefully hide them on the wrong side, crocheting them through the loops between the rows.
Thus, I knitted 25 motifs and sewed them together with a needle and thread. I think that it is hardly possible to knit such a napkin in a continuous way, but you can combine motifs in the process of knitting the last row.

How to choose threads and crochet a simple napkin for beginners: diagram with description
Experienced craftswomen choose spider-thin yarn for their work. Deftly using crochet, they knit napkins of extraordinary beauty that look more like lace. However, those who are just learning to knit should not start with thin threads.
- To prevent the thread from getting tangled, choose medium thickness yarn. Wool blend and acrylic Perfect for first jobs.

Tutorial for crocheting a simple napkin:
Prepare a hook and thread, study the knitting pattern.
Since the napkin is round, start knitting from the center. Knit a 12-loop chain.
Tie the ring according to the diagram.
Connect the last loop with the chain chain loop, thus completing the circle.
Go to second row. Knit 3 chain stitches, 4 double crochets into the stitches of the previous row.
Repeat the pattern.
Do not connect the last loop of the row with the first; if you connect them, the pattern will be broken.
In the third row, according to the diagram, alternate 4 chain stitches with 6 stitches + 2 double crochets. Knitting borders- the final stage in the work. The border consists of 7 rows:
- 1st row: 2 chain stitches, 9 single crochet stitches, 8 chain stitches, 10 single crochet stitches in 2 flower stitches. Then do the same over each flower.
- 2nd row: 5 chain loops, 1 stitch + 1 yarn over in 3 stitches above the petal, 2 chain stitches, 1 stitch + 1 yarn over in the next 3 stitch, 2 chain loops, 1 stitch + 1 yarn over in the last stitch above the first flower, 8 chain loops. Continue on each flower as well.

- 4th row: completely repeats the 3rd row, however, if the knitting begins to “pull”, you can add air loops yourself (it will be enough to add 1 loop each).
- 5 row: 3 chain stitches, 7 chain stitches + 1 yarn over, 10 chain stitches, 8 chain stitches + 1 yarn over, 10 chain stitches.
- 6th row: turn the knitting, knit: 3 chain loops, 15 stitches + 1 crochet in the arch of the previous row, 1 single crochet between the stitches of the previous row, 16 stitches + 1 crochet in the next arch, 1 single crochet.
- 7th row: the entire row is tying the resulting elements with single crochets.
Finish the work by securing the thread and removing the remainder.

Today we will learn how to knit napkins and read patterns using a simple small napkin as an example. I have prepared for you a detailed step-by-step description with photos.
Which yarn to choose for knitting napkins
Crocheting napkins for beginners is better to start with thicker yarn (but not very thick) so as not to get tangled in the threads. For example, half-wool or acrylic.
We select the hook according to the thickness of the thread. This is done by trial method: if you take a very thin hook, then knitting with thick yarn will be difficult, almost impossible. A crochet hook with a very large number will result in a napkin that is too full of holes.
For knitting a thick napkin, a hook with number 2 - 2.5 is suitable. But, again, I repeat, do not strictly follow what is written. Try it, choose the option that you think is more convenient.
It’s better to start by choosing the simplest patterns for crocheting a napkin.
Crocheted small napkins can be used as... White or multi-colored napkins will look good on the table.
Well, in the future, for knitting openwork napkins, it is better to use thin cotton bobbin threads, such as those used for sewing (No. 0-10). The product will be soft and airy.

The icon following the VP in the diagram indicates a double crochet. But I decided to knit two yarn overs, so my further description will differ slightly from the diagram. But this is not important, you can knit with one or two yarn overs. And the designation C2H means two double crochets.
We tie the ring according to the pattern with 32 double crochets. We insert the hook inside the ring.
We connect the last column with a chain of 3 air loops (VP), cast on at the beginning of the row, with a half-column (PS).
3 . We knit the remaining rows, looking at the diagram.
In the second row: 3 chain stitches (VP), 4 double crochets (C2H) in each stitch of the previous row and so on.
I made a little mistake here and at the beginning of the row I only knitted three stitches.
There is no need to connect the last loop of the row to the first, as is usually the case when knitting napkins. Starting from the third row to the 6th in this napkin, the air loops at the beginning of the row not only serve as lifting rows, but are also an element of the pattern, i.e. there is a smooth transition from the previous row to the next.
3rd row: alternate 4 air loops (VP) and 6 double crochets (C2H). We see in the diagram that when knitting the middle 4 columns, the hook must be inserted into the base of the columns of the previous row, and we knit the first and sixth column by inserting the hook under the chain of chain loops of the previous row.
4th row: alternate 5 air loops (VP) and 8 double crochets (C2H).
5th row: we alternate 9 air loops (VP) and 10 double crochets (C2H).
6th row: alternate
11 air loops (VP),
