How to sew a dress for a doll with your own hands? How to sew a fluffy dress for a doll with your own hands How to easily sew a dress for a doll

Today we are sending our Barbie to the ball, but what should we send her in? There are no beautiful dresses in her wardrobe. Let's create it ourselves!

DIY doll outfits are very easy to make! On the website we will show you how to sew a fluffy dress for Barbie, a detailed master class.

Materials and tools:

  • needle and thread for sewing;
  • embroidery (lace);
  • scissors;
  • pins;
  • tulle;

Note: in this example, the result is a small belt, enough for one turn. If you want a bow at the back, it is better to make the belt longer.

It is better to choose a material that is not dense, translucent, for example tulle will do. In our example, it is soft pink.

The belt on the finished dress is 1.5 cm (height). To make it, a piece of fabric 6 cm was required. The height of the first skirt is 15.5 cm. The second is 16 cm. The length of the belt is 19 cm.

Progress

We take the fabric and measure the required length of the future skirt. If there is a large piece of fabric, then it is better to look for fabric with a smooth, beautiful edge. To measure the required length, you can attach a doll or take a ruler (centimeter) and measure the distance from the waist to the legs. We take into account the small edge on the hem.

The fabric is translucent, reminiscent of lace, so when hemming it is better to hem it. We bend the material and start stitching, gradually tighten the fabric, and we get a gather. Every time we try on the doll’s waist. When the waist ends, fix the thread.

We attach both edges of the skirt, make a hem, and stitch. Without sewing the fabric all the way through, because the Barbie doll has large hips and the fabric does not stretch. Turn the skirt inside out.

Now we are making another skirt so that the dress is fluffy and the legs do not show through the translucent fabric.

We put one skirt into another and sew them together. In this example, the petticoat is moved down slightly. This will be visible in the photographs of the final result.

Cut a small rectangle (you can make a long one). Fold the side parts inward. Fasten with a pin.

We stitch and we have a belt ready.

Let's start making the top part of the dress. Cut off a small piece of fabric.

Bend it as shown in the photo and secure it with a pin.

Then we make a fold on the left and right sides, fixing it with pins.

We apply it to the doll and see where to make the cutting line. It turns out to be a small rectangle.

Sew the belt to the skirt. Then we attach the top to the skirt and fix it.

We sew the parts to each other.

If a little princess doesn’t gouge out dolls’ eyes and doesn’t break their legs, but dresses them up in colored rags, tries to make them the most beautiful blouse and fluffy wedding dress with her own hands, she will grow up to be a wonderful, caring, loving mother.

Moms who understand how to sew a dress for a doll know that they come in varying complexity. Some models are easy for a five-year-old baby to use.

Little Queen

For this little pink dress, mom needs to make a simple pattern, which is a rectangle with a hole in the middle for the head. It’s so simple that after watching you do it once, your little one will be able to make a wardrobe for all her toys.

  • On the sides you can make two buttons and air loops with your own hands. Let the young dressmaker practice the fine motor skills of her little fingers.

  • Blouses, skirts, ponchos made from small scraps of knitwear, gloves and clothing parts can be used by children's imagination to create the most fashionable models.

  • A tight dress made from a sock or golf can be obtained after cutting off the trace from it. The golf elastic will serve as a collar.

In order to make a new thing for a doll with our own hands, we will need fabric, a needle, thread, and a sewing machine.

  • We take four sizes: waist circumference, chest circumference, bodice length and skirt length. For the top of the dress, cut out a rectangle with sides equal to the length of the bodice and a width equal to the volume of the chest, adding 0.5 cm on all sides.

  • We cut out a rectangle for the skirt with a side equal to the length and a width approximately equal to three times the waist volume or more if you want a full dress, also adding on the seams.

  • We sew two pieces of fabric around the perimeter with a zigzag seam. We turn up the edge of the top and bottom of the dress by 0.5 cm. We attach the bodice to the doll and outline the darts.

  • We sew them on the machine. Let's try it on.

  • Now you need to make your own skirt. Using a basting stitch, pull the top of the fabric down to your waist size.

  • Secure the waist to the skirt with pins and stitch.

  • Place the pieces right sides together, secure with pins and stitch.

  • Sew two strips of Velcro and sew the bottom of the skirt.
  • This is how the dress turned out. This universal style will allow you to make many different models with your own hands: a narrow little black dress from Coco Chanel, and a lush wedding dress for the bride.

Now you know how to sew a floor-length dress for a doll. It is enough to increase the length and width of the skirt. After the main parts are cut and sewn, you can come up with various additions. For example:

  • lace braid along the very edge of the hem;
  • twisted gold belt at the waist;
  • fur boa on the shoulders;
  • bows on the skirt;
  • bat sleeves, etc.

Sometimes the dolls look like real babies. You can make clothes for them with your own hands in the same way as for a child. Dress patterns are easy to find online. I'll tell you how to sew an original universal cap.

  1. Measure a semicircle from temple to temple across the crown. Divide the result in half. This will be the length of the strip. Measure the circumference of your face - this will be its width.
  2. Cut a strip of fabric, adding 2 cm in length.
  3. Fold the fabric lengthwise on both sides twice and stitch.
  4. Now you need to make your own ruffles. Sew them along the very edge of one side.
  5. Insert the ribbons on both folded sides using a pin and pull tightly on the side where the ruffles are not sewn. That's it, the cap is ready.

This headdress is universal because it will fit any head size. You just need to loosen or tighten the ribbon near your face.

The most popular toy in every girl's childhood is a doll. Not possible with dolls compare constructors, sets of dishes or soft toys. Every girl dreams of a beautiful princess doll, who is dressed in a dress with beads and rhinestones. Of course, it is impossible to imagine every doll’s wardrobe without an abundance of outfits.

They can be purchased at a toy store, but it will cost parents a pretty penny. You can sew a dress for a doll yourself at home and save your family budget by sewing beautiful clothes from scraps. Dress patterns for Barbie dolls are no different from the proposed pattern for a simple baby doll.

Necessary materials

So, in order to sew outfit for your favorite doll, you will need:

  • Scraps of fabric.
  • Thread and needle.
  • Various decorations for dresses. This could be mom’s unnecessary jewelry, ribbons and flowers made of fabric, as well as beads and beads.
  • Pattern paper. An ordinary landscape sheet will do.
  • Pencil.
  • A centimeter for measuring the parameters of a doll.
  • Cardboard.

Making a template for a pattern

In order to make a dress pattern for your favorite toy, you don’t need to perform complex measurements and calculations. You can resort to an easier method. For example, to get a pattern for the top dress parts, you need to know only three measurements:

  • Chest circumference of the toy.
  • Her hips and waist.
  • The height of the doll's bodice.

After some simple measurements, you can start creating a clothing pattern. To do this, you need to draw a vertical line on a landscape sheet and mark the chest, hips and waist of the beautiful doll on it. After marking the points on the drawing, it is necessary to set aside the values of the corresponding circles, more precisely, their fourth part. Next, you need to retreat the desired line of the bodice of the dress from the upper chest line and draw a side line.

Now half of the front of the bodice should clearly appear on the sheet. In order for the dress to fit more accurately, it is necessary to make darts. With their help, the side seam line is reduced. If the dress is intended for a doll with a large bust, then the initial waist measurement should be increased by several centimeters. These centimeters will subsequently be closed into darts.

First fitting of the product

You can sew a product for your daughter’s favorite without trying on a pattern that has been tested. To make the outfit pattern perfect, you need to finalize the template. After all the corrections have been made, it will be easy to sew an outfit for the doll, even without having it at hand. The next step is to transfer the template onto a cardboard base. The template must be attached to the cardboard and cut out with scissors. After the craftswoman holds in her hands cardboard pattern template, you can begin to transfer the product parameters onto the fabric. It is worth considering that it is necessary to leave seam allowances.

After all the details of the bodice are transferred to the fabric base, they are cut out and sewn. After which you definitely need to do the first fitting on the doll. If the bodice does not fit very well, then the tailor should modify the top of the product. To do this, you can make darts at the waist or above the chest. All outfit changes should be noted on a cardboard template so that you don’t have to return to this issue next time.

Dress bodice design

The bodice of the product will look perfect if it is sewn with a lining. To do this, you need to cut out another top of the product, but only from a thinner fabric. This fabric must be connected to the main one. This can be done by sewing the top line of the dress. The seam must be made inside the dress. In order to sew the top of the dress and its lining, you need both halves of the product fold right side out to each other, laying a seam along the upper cut. The seam is located above the doll's chest.

The seams should be stitched in the place where the future fastener will be located. The end result will be that all seams on the top of the product are connected and closed. The open edge remains only at the junction of the lower part of the bodice and the upper part of the skirt. To make the doll's dress look unusual and elegant, you can decorate the bodice of the product with beads, rhinestones or lace.

Choosing a skirt for an outfit

Before you start sewing a skirt, you need to decide on the style of the intended dress. Bottom options There can be several products:

  • Lush hem with pleats.
  • Frilled skirt.
  • Short or long.
  • Bell or straight.
  • With or without a train.

The bodice of the product is only the basis of the dress, but the final version of the product directly depends on the selection of the skirt. The simplest design for the bottom of a dress is one with a full skirt. To do this, the tailor needs to know just one measurement of the model: the doll's waist circumference. To sew a full skirt, you need to cut a strip of fabric, it should be equal to the length of the skirt. And the width of the piece of fabric will correspond to the expected pomp. The edges of the piece of fabric must be sewn together. You just have to leave room for sewing on the zipper. Then the bottom of the skirt is processed.

You can sew lace or frills to the bottom of the product, which will serve as an interesting and appropriate decoration. The final stage of creating the bottom of the doll will be to assemble the top of the dress in such a way as to achieve the waist measurement that was taken initially.

Final assembly of parts

If the process of preparing the bottom of the product and the bodice is completed, then you can move on to the main stage of sewing - assembling the dress. The work must be done carefully; initially, you can baste all the elements, and then fasten them using o stitch seam. You need to sew a satin ribbon over the connecting seam at the waist of the product. It will not only decorate the dress, but also hide sewing errors. The tape should be tucked in the places where the fastener is located. The seam in the middle of the back is usually closed with Velcro.

The subtleties of sewing a wedding dress for a doll

The subtleties of sewing a wedding dress for your favorite doll include the selection of decorative elements of the outfit, as well as subtleties in choosing fabric for sewing. Of course, every little princess dreams of dressing her doll in a bridal outfit. In order to make this daughter’s wish come true, the mother needs to prepare white satin fabric, as well as lace or mesh for the veil. The skirt of the bride's dress is usually decorated with pearls or white beads.

You can sew the product according to the plan suggested above in the description, since it is universal for creating any image of a toy. To make a veil, the needlewoman needs to cut a small piece of rectangular lace. I collect one edge of the rectangle t into a bun and attached to a hairpin, the connecting place can be decorated with beads or small artificial flowers.

When creating an outfit for your pet, you shouldn’t limit your imagination. Elements such as a fur cape or gloves can complement a festive doll outfit. It all depends on the taste and wishes of the customer.

Attention, TODAY only!

Considering the modern pricing policy in children's stores, parents are starting to make things for dolls themselves. And many people do it well. Now products are entering the markets where you can easily change sets of clothes. A mother can always see how to sew dresses for Barbie dolls so that her daughter will love her toy in a new way.

For this, it is not so important to be well acquainted with the basics of sewing. The cut is extremely simple and primitive. There will be no problems preparing the hat either, following all the instructions consistently.

We sew our own dress and hat

We need to take:

  • a piece of fabric;
  • scissors;
  • threads;
  • centimeter;
  • pencil;
  • sewing machine.

We first take measurements from our doll. Pre-measure your chest circumference. The proportions in the front and back vary greatly, but for any style this is not such a big problem. On average, the values do not exceed 8 centimeters. Then measure the length to the neck, and then from the shoulder to the highest mark of the chest. This is necessary for the dart.

Sewing method

Take the simplest beautiful fabric measuring 16 by 16 centimeters. It must be folded in four layers. Set aside one cm from the center, and 0.5 cm from the bottom. Further down, you should set aside about four cm per sleeve. From the fold horizontally on the bottom side, mark 5 cm - this will be the width of the chest and 1 cm for the seam.

There is a photo of a Barbie dress that shows this process in detail, if you were unable to assimilate the written information, preferring visual examples.

Next, the pattern is cut along specific lines. You must first open the fabric and then fold it vertically. The neckline should be made deeper for your convenience when working. When unfolding the entire cut, you must carefully cut it into two parts at the back.

The seam is placed in a zigzag pattern from the edge of the sleeves. On one side of the back you need to bend the fabric 1 cm, and then sew a piece of Velcro there. There is no need to stitch the rest from the edge. You just need to sew a second Velcro inside out on the other side. A DIY dress for a Barbie doll will be carefully fastened after all the procedures.

After this, the shelf is folded with the back in order to stitch the sides with a seam not exceeding a centimeter. From the bottom side, you can widen everything by finishing all the seams cleanly. Now you can begin the first fitting directly on the doll.

The blouse is put on with the back side facing out. You must mark all the dart locations and then stitch them. A second fitting is also necessary due to the fact that the back is much shorter than the chest. Trim all unnecessary elements, leaving a margin of no more than 5 millimeters for seams, which must first be ironed.

At the end, the skirt is prepared. Usually they take fabric 10 by 35 cm. All cuts are framed with a special seam. The top thread should be slightly loosened in order to subsequently lay two lines there, 2-3 mm apart from each other. Tie the strings into knots so that nothing comes undone anywhere.

On the other hand, pull the thread to create a neat gather. If done correctly, the top and bottom of the skirt will be the same length. If the skirt and bodice are sewn down, then the threads at the bottom can be cut.

The two parts of the dress are folded and sewn with a 5 mm seam. Beautiful dresses for Barbie are characterized by the fact that the folds on them do not stand out, being evenly located over the entire surface. At each stage, play it safe by constantly trying on, because it won’t take much extra time.

After all the intricacies, think about the fastening element. Usually, this is ordinary Velcro, only at the waist. You need to do it by analogy with the top.

Sew a hat

You can, of course, knit a dress for Barbie, but this requires a more serious approach. For now, we’ll tell you how to quickly and effectively work on a headdress – a hat. Naturally, first they measure the circumference of the head - everything is like with people. Usually it does not exceed 10 centimeters.

In this case, the fabric is prepared 4 by 12 cm. It is stitched along the edge so that nothing unfolds. Then a hoop is created, connecting the joint with a needle. Fold the fabric in half so that the front part is facing up. Put a stripe on the whole thing. Everything is outlined along the contours, allowing a third of a centimeter for the seam. The parts should not move, stitching all the elements along the edges. It's time for cutting.

The fields are selected in the following way. Take a square piece of fabric about 13 by 13 cm, fold it 4 times, and then apply a solid circle in the center. All edges are marked, and then the central part is cut out after you remove the circle. The bottom is applied on top so that it can be easily sewn to the side.

Don't forget to leave a tail for the side seam. Machine stitching solves all subsequent problems by processing the seams in a zigzag manner. The margins are stitched along the edge, which is why there is no shifting. The upper part is inserted in the center.

Make sure there are no folds or excess space. Outline everything well, and then sew it together. Here is such a simple and modern dress pattern for Barbie. There is nothing complicated here for a caring mother.

Photos of dresses for Barbie

We sew a dress for a doll. Detailed master class.

I’m posting, as promised, a dress code for my doll MICHELLE. (Lots of step-by-step photos and explanations for them)

Pattern for this dress. Sheet format: A4

We cut out details from the main material and lace, and on the skirt the lace is 7 centimeters shorter.

We put lace on the front side of the parts. We pin the sides of the sleeves with pins. We also pin the edges of the skirt (so that the lace does not slip while we sew it to the skirt fabric)

We also attach the lace to other details with pins.

We sew on a machine along the contour of each part, securing the lace to the fabric.

Now we’re making our own fendibeaver braid.)) To do this, thread bias tape of a suitable color through the holes in the regular braid:

We secure the binding to the braid with a short stitch:

Now on the front part and two back parts we bend the seam allowance (about 1 cm) onto the “face” and pin it with pins:

We pin our braid to the front side of the parts:

We sew along the front braid with two seams - on top of the braid and on the bottom:

View from the inside:

We pin the side seams and sew them on a machine.

We make a wide stitching step on the machine and sew 2 lines along the top of the skirt at a distance of 4mm. Then, by pulling the threads of these lines, we make an assembly at a distance equal to the distance along the waist (measure with a centimeter):

Having finished assembling, tie the threads into a knot. Please note that the gathering (folds) ends 2 cm before each edge - these edges will then bend inward, like a facing, and gathering on them is NOT NEEDED!
Since the gathering creates thickness, we need to flatten it; to do this, we iron our assembly with a steam iron. Press down on the iron to make the assembly as flat as possible:

Now we process the edges of the side seams on the upper part with an overlocker or a zigzag stitch and iron the x towards the front.
Then we take the skirt and pin it to the top part, folding it face to face.

Now we’ve sewn on the skirt, now we need to finish the seam. This can be done with an overlocker or a zigzag, my overlocker balked at such a thickness and sent me “to the forest.” I had to finish the edge with bias tape:

Baste the bias tape and sew it on by machine:

Now we sew the seams on the back:

We overcast the bottom, fold it inside out 1cm and sew it on.

We fold our facings to the wrong side and pin them with pins. Sew with two lines - 2cm and 3-4mm from the edge
top

bottom

We overcast the seams on the sleeves and along the edges of the sleeves:

We bend the bottom of the sleeve inward by 1 cm, pin it and stitch it: IMPORTANT: leave 1 cm unsewn - we will insert an elastic band there later.

Here you can see the unsewn centimeter. This place is best done where it will be least visible. Then, when the elastic is inserted, sew it up by hand.

overcast the armholes:

Combine the sleeve seam and the side seam and pin the sleeve to the armhole:

Using a machine, sew a seam exactly from the top of the back armhole to the top of the front armhole.

Then we bend the seam allowance inside the sleeve 1cm2mm and pin it with pins. Stitch: (but also leave 1cm unsewn - for the elastic.

Here we have sewn on the sleeve. Now all that remains is to put the elastic band into it.

In order to insert an elastic band, we look for the smallest pin in the house. We put it in a hat elastic band.

We thread the elastic into the sleeve:

We “gather” the sleeve to the size of the doll’s arm and tie the ends of the elastic, but do not cut it off at the root, but leave small tails so that the elastic does not unravel. We hide the tails inside and manually sew up the unstitched area. We do the same with the top of the sleeve.
Now we bend the facing of the armhole to the wrong side of the front and back and grab this allowance with tiny stitches.

The seam allowance is sewn:

We do the same with the second sleeve.
Next, take the Velcro and cut it into the required number of pieces.

we divide the pieces of Velcro into the “toothed” part and the “shaggy” part)), pin these pieces to the dress. Please note that one row of Velcro on one side of the dress goes from the INSIDE, the other from the OUTSIDE.

We sew the Velcro along the contour using a machine.

We are entering the “finish line”!)) Finally we reached the waist. We cut it out 1m40cm long (across the fabric) and 4+4+2cm wide at the seams. Total - 10cm. We pin it together and sew it together, leaving 1 cm from the edge.

Using this “roll needle” we turn it onto the face.

We turned it inside out, now we need to iron it.

Now we make a bow on the belt. To do this, bend the belt in half almost in the middle and sew a line across the belt, departing 7-8 cm from the fold.

Straighten the bow and make a line in the middle.

We make a jumper for the bow. Cut a rectangle 8cm long and 7cm wide. Sew along the long side, departing 1cm from the edge. We cut the seam by 0.5 cm.

Turn it inside out and iron it.

We bend it in half and make a stitch, departing 1 cm from the edge.

Here, we’ve sewn it, we’ll thread our belt into it.

We grab the jumper at the back of the bow with a few stitches to hold it in place.

Front view:

We put the dress on the doll and tie the belt. To prevent the belt from getting lost when undressing the doll, you can grab it from the inside with 2-3 stitches at the front of the dress.

Well, that’s probably all! Thanks to everyone who mastered so much text. Enjoy it!
